Emil Johansson, a student in Gothenburg, has created a fabulous site called the LOTRProject (or Lord Of The Rings Project. The site provides different types of visualizations about Tolkien’s world (Silmarillion, Hobbit, and LOTR) from maps to family trees to character mentions (see image above).
What stands out about the project is the variety of visualizations and infographics that Johansson has generated, all about a set of books and their world. He has some great interactive maps, an interesting set of demographic statistics about the world, and An Interactive Analysis of Tolkien’s Works. If one wanted a survey of the variety of visualizations that one can generate on works of literature this would be it. You can see the full list here.
