{"id":8825,"date":"2026-06-08T21:06:13","date_gmt":"2026-06-08T21:06:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theoreti.ca\/?p=8825"},"modified":"2026-06-08T21:06:13","modified_gmt":"2026-06-08T21:06:13","slug":"csdh-conference-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theoreti.ca\/?p=8825","title":{"rendered":"CSDH Conference 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conftool.net\/csdh-schn-2026\/index.php?page=browseSessions&amp;form_date=2026-06-03&amp;mode=table&amp;presentations=show\">CSDH-SCHN 2026 conference<\/a> was held this year at the Universit\u00e9 de Montreal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Bridging Divides team had a number of <strong>papers<\/strong> at the conference that I was part of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>&#8220;Platformed Racism: Anti-South Asian Immigration Narratives in Canadian Telegram Networks&#8221; was presented by Ayushi Khemka. (I was a co-author, along with Leonardo Nascimento and Yasmeen Abu-Laban, Yasmeen).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8220;From Black Boxes to Glass Boxes: Auditable Voyant Workflows (with Bounded LLM Assistance) for Evidence-Based Distant Reading&#8221; was presented by Augustine Farinola. (John Bradley and I were co-authors.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8220;Abstract Rhetorics of Algorithmic Governance: A Bilingual Corpus Study of Canadian AIA&#8221; was presented by Augustine Farinola and Ralph Padilla. (Yasmeen Abu-Laban and I were co-authors.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We also had a <strong>panel<\/strong> which was introduced by Yasmeen Abu-Laban and moderated by me on &#8220;Critical Digital Humanities and Immigration Research.&#8221; The participants were Sawafta, Eleyan; Le, Huong; Alzubaidi, Abdullah; Farinola, Augustine; Khemka, Ayushi; and Padilla, Ralph.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then we had two <strong>posters<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>&#8220;Constellation Word2Vec Viewer in Voyant&#8221; was presented by Ryan Chartier.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8220;Making AI Legible: Visual workflows for Critical Reflexivity and Ethical LLM Use in the Social Sciences and Humanities&#8221; was presented by Abhik Hasnain. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Congratulations also to Ayushi Khemka for her own paper on &#8220;Misnaming in the Machine: Epistemic Injustice, Digital Translation, and the Racialisation of \u201cIndian\u201d&#8221;, and Augustine Farinola who had a paper on &#8220;Untranslatable Lived Experience: Persona\u2011Driven RAG for Digital Humanities Pedagogy in Immigration Systems.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The CSDH-SCHN 2026 conference was held this year at the Universit\u00e9 de Montreal.
