{"id":8785,"date":"2026-03-10T21:35:25","date_gmt":"2026-03-10T21:35:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theoreti.ca\/?p=8785"},"modified":"2026-03-10T21:35:25","modified_gmt":"2026-03-10T21:35:25","slug":"8785","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theoreti.ca\/?p=8785","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Anthropic is standing up to the Department of War (DoW) on what we might call ethics issues.\u00a0This story has some interesting angles.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Originally Anthropic had a contract with the DoW to provide AI services across the government. They had two red lines:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Their AIs couldn&#8217;t be used for fully autonomous lethal weapons.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Their AIs couldn&#8217;t be used for mass surveillance of US citizens.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The government pushed back and eventually cancelled the contract. Then they designated Anthropic a Supply Chain Risk which could make it hard for any government agency to contract with them. So &#8230; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/2026\/mar\/09\/anthropic-defense-department-lawsuit-ai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">they are suing now<\/a>.
