{"id":8267,"date":"2023-05-24T01:35:28","date_gmt":"2023-05-24T01:35:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theoreti.ca\/?p=8267"},"modified":"2023-05-24T01:35:28","modified_gmt":"2023-05-24T01:35:28","slug":"the-institution-of-knowledge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theoreti.ca\/?p=8267","title":{"rendered":"The Institution of Knowledge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ualberta.ca\/kule-institute\/winter2023\/index.html\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/theoreti.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/iok_poster_v3.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Last week the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ualberta.ca\/kule-institute\/index.html\">Kule Institute for Advanced Study<\/a>, the colab and the Dunlop Art Gallery organized and exhibit\/symposium on <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ualberta.ca\/kule-institute\/winter2023\/index.html\">The Institution of Knowledge<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em>The exhibit featured artists reflecting on knowledge and institutions and the symposium including performance lectures, panels and talks.<\/p>\n<p>I gave a talk on &#8220;The Knowledge We Bear&#8221; that looked at four of the main structures that discipline the ways we bear knowledge in the university as institution. I also moderated a dialogue between Kevin Kee and Jacques Beauvais.<\/p>\n<p>The three days were extraordinary thanks to the leadership of my co-organizer Natalie Loveless. I learned a lot about the weaving of research and creation together.<\/p>\n<p>In many ways this was my last major initiative as Director of KIAS. On July 1st Michael O&#8217;Driscoll will take over. It was a way of reflecting on institutes and what they can do with others.
