See <a href=\"http:\/\/europa.eu\/rapid\/press-release_IP-19-1893_en.htm\">Artificial intelligence: Commission takes forward its work on ethics guidelines<\/a>. The appointed a <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/digital-single-market\/en\/high-level-expert-group-artificial-intelligence\">High-Level Expert Group<\/a> in June of 2018. This group has now developed Seven essentials for achieving trustworthy AI:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;\">Trustworthy AI should respect all applicable laws and regulations, as well as a series of requirements; specific assessment lists aim to help verify the application of each of the key requirements:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Human agency and oversight<\/strong>: AI systems should enable equitable societies by supporting human agency and fundamental rights, and not decrease, limit or misguide human autonomy.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Robustness and safety<\/strong>: Trustworthy AI requires algorithms to be secure, reliable and robust enough to deal with errors or inconsistencies during all life cycle phases of AI systems.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Privacy and data governance:\u00a0<\/strong>Citizens should have full control over their own data, while data concerning them will not be used to harm or discriminate against them.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Transparency:<\/strong>\u00a0The traceability of AI systems should be ensured.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Diversity, non-discrimination and fairness:\u00a0<\/strong>AI systems should consider the whole range of human abilities, skills and requirements, and ensure accessibility.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Societal and environmental well-being:\u00a0<\/strong>AI systems should be used to enhance positive social change and enhance sustainability and ecological responsibility.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Accountability:\u00a0<\/strong>Mechanisms should be put in place to ensure responsibility and accountability for AI systems and their outcomes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The next step has now been announced and that is a pilot phase that tests these essentials with stakeholders.
