I have been keeping my <a href=\"http:\/\/philosophi.ca\/pmwiki.php\/Main\/DH2015\">conference notes here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The conference was held on the lovely campus of the University of Western Sydney. I was part of a couple of events and papers at this conference including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>News Scholars Symposium: With Rachel Hendry, I helped organize a pre-conference event for new scholars. This was supported by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chcinetwork.org\/\">CHCI<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dhcenternet.org\/\">centerNet<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/kias.ualberta.ca\">Kule Institute for Advanced Study<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uws.edu.au\/\">University of Western Sydney<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>I participated in a public panel\u00a0on\u00a0Building Communities and Networks in the Humanities where I talked about some of the forms of public engagement that we are trying at the Kule Institute including the <a href=\"http:\/\/aroundtheworld.ualberta.ca\">Around the World Conference<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>I helped St\u00e9fan Sinclair with a workshop on <a href=\"http:\/\/voyant-tools.org\">Voyant 2.0<\/a>\u00a0(link goes to current version which will soon be 2.0).<\/li>\n<li>I gave a paper with St\u00e9fan Sinclair on &#8220;Talking about Programming the Digital Humanities&#8221; that traced a history of the discussion about programming and tools in the digital humanities.<\/li>\n<li>Finally, John Montague gave a paper on &#8220;Exploring Large Datasets with Topic Model Visualizations&#8221; that I was involved in. This paper discussed a visualization for exploring the results of topic modelling that you can try in <a href=\"http:\/\/analytics.artsrn.ualberta.ca\/viz\/galaxy\">prototype here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is hard to summarize\u00a0a whole conference, but I would note some of the questions that the new scholars posed in the unconference are worth thinking about:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How does one learn about the field of digital humanities?<\/li>\n<li>How does one learn skills in the digital humanities?<\/li>\n<li>How does one teach the digital humanities?<\/li>\n<li>What are the ethical issues in digital work in the humanities?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Digital Humanities 2015 (DH2015) is now finishing up.
