Frederick Gibbs analyzed the short definitions in his blog essay, <a href=\"http:\/\/historyproef.org\/blog\/teaching\/digital-humanities-definitions-by-type\/\">digital humanities definitions by type<\/a>. He boils the definitions down to the following (the number is his count as to how many definitions fit that category):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>55 \u2013 variation on \u201cthe application of technology to humanities work\u201d<br \/>\n22 \u2013 working with digital media or a digital environment<br \/>\n15 \u2013 minimize the difference between DH and humanities<br \/>\n12 \u2013 umbrella or blanket nature of DH label; issues that humanists now face<br \/>\n12 \u2013 using digital AND studying digital<br \/>\n12 \u2013 refusals to define the term<br \/>\n10 \u2013 methods AND community<br \/>\n9 \u2013 digitization \/ archives<br \/>\n9 \u2013 studying the digital<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I think he more or less has it right. I&#8217;m not sure where he put mine, but I&#8217;m of the &#8220;using digital AND studying digital&#8221;.
