I ended up trying to imagine a Collaborative Research Commons that imagines crowdsourcing digital humanities work.<\/p>\n<p>While research as a gift economy may seem idealistic, I&#8217;ve been surprised by the extraordinary collaboration you get when you set up a structured way for people to contribute to a project. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.digitalhumanities.org\/dhq\/vol\/003\/1\/000025.html\">Suda On Line<\/a> project first showed (me at least) the potential for social and volunteer research. I&#8217;ve had luck with the <a href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.mcmaster.ca\/\">Dictionary of Words in the Wild<\/a> and the upcoming <a href=\"http:\/\/tapor.ualberta.ca\/taporwiki\/index.php\/Day_in_the_Life_of_the_Digital_Humanities\">Day of Digital Humanities<\/a>. This last project has yet to happen, but we have close to 100 participants signed up.
